Innovation Keeps Mobilux On Top With Mobile Storage Systems

April 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Innovation is the quality that keeps companies on top of their respective industries over the long term and in the office storage systems industry a Thai company has been leading the way for years now. Tellus Systems Ltd., located in Bangkok, has continually improved upon its product line of mobile shelving units used by companies for their compact storage of files, documents and general office supplies. Using an original idea, from some 60 years ago by the Compactus company of Switzerland, Tellus has continually upgraded the features and capabilities of their products over the last 10 years and has now launched a new brand name for their line of products called Mobilux.

Mobilux Storage Systems

Mobilux Storage Systems

Mobilux office storage products have many unique features but the most important fact about these ever-evolving products is their basic function – they save great amounts of space, and therefore money, for the people who use them. Many people may not be familiar with mobile shelving units but if you have an office that generates paperwork that must be saved and accessed easily then Mobilux products can provide some great solutions for almost any business.

And, Mobilux’s storage shelving is not limited to just offices. There are numerous applications that businesses as diverse as schools and retail shoe outlets have found for these products and there are new applications being devised all the time. As Mobilux keeps adding features to their product line and therefore making their storage shelving systems even more adaptable and flexible in their functionality, new ideas for using these modular storage systems keep presenting themselves.

There are many technical reasons why Mobilux products are superior to their competition but the overriding advantage that mobile storage units have over ordinary filing cabinets and shelving units is that businesses that employ these systems save money on the rent they pay for space. This simple fact alone means that these storage systems pay for themselves over the long term. This is their primary advantage for businesses that are looking to their bottom line but there are many other more intangible, and yet important, advantages as well.

Mobilux Storage Systems

One of the benefits that mobile office storage systems offer is ease with which employees can access files, documents, merchandise and any other materials that are stored in mobile shelving. A company can much better organize its storage systems and place needed documents and materials easily at hand for employees. The time saved because of this can greatly affect employees’ productivity resulting in a more efficient and profitable company.
Also, from a purely aesthetic standpoint Mobilux storage systems create a clean, uncluttered look for any business. And with the many design choices that the company offers, any office or workplace can become a more stimulating and pleasing environment in which to work. It’s hard to quantify these advantages in numbers but the effect on employee morale and mindset is still a definite advantage.

And, as stated above, Mobilux is ahead of its competition in the development of these flexible storage systems and manufactures the highest quality systems available. Lightweight materials, superior design characteristics and greater flexibility in configuring the systems are just some of the reasons why Mobilux continues to stay ahead of other companies in the industry. Mobilux has built its business with products that are second to none in quality and innovation along with a service philosophy that offers individual attention and problem-solving for every customer, big or small.

If your business has not explored using mobile storage systems then now may be the time to do so. For all of the reasons stated above and more, the use of Mobilux storage systems can help your business to expand and grow in an orderly, organized and profitable way. Dusit Thani’s Pavilion Restaurant Has Weekend Specialties

April 13, 2009 · 1 Comment

It was with great expectations that I went to the Dusit Thani Bangkok’s Pavilion restaurant this past Saturday night (April 11) to partake of the restaurant’s special weekend buffet that is offered on Friday and Saturday nights. The main attractions for me were the main lobster and pan-fried foie gras that are part of the low 1,250 baht++ price. This is a great price for Maine lobster and foie gras in a high-quality buffet and although I rarely put prices in my reviews, I think that in this case it bears mentioning.

Well. I wasn’t disappointed, even though the lobster wasn’t a whole Maine lobster with the claws as I used to have growing up in Maine. It was sliced in half for easy eating and was chilled on ice and the tomalley, or liver, was still there which is, in a true lobster lover’s opinion, some of the best eating of all. It wasn’t like back home but it was the best lobster I’ve had in Thailand since I had some shipped here six years ago. And the foie gras was pan-fried to order (I like mine a little firmer than most people do and the chef was happy to oblige me) and very tasty. I had mine plain, without the sauce that was available to accompany it, and enjoyed every bite as did my wife, who also had two lobster halves to my one.

As for the other items on the buffet they covered the usual bases that any top buffet in town would have including a really good cold seafood section (see photo) that offered diners Phuket lobster also, as well as shrimp, scallops, mussels and other seafood delicacies. There was a Japanese section also which, although not big, presented some good sushi and sashimi choices. The salad section was interesting also and offered plenty of ingredients for making your own salad as well as a number of prepared salads. I skipped this section, though, and made it a high-calorie night all the way.

So, in addition to the lobster and foie gras I also tried the leg of lamb, the seabass and several other fish dishes from the hot main course section of the buffet. This was after some sushi so I could indulge in my wasabi fixation. Everything I tried was very well prepared and tasted fresh and not dried out, the most common problem for any buffet. That was about it for me. I resisted the temptation to overdo it, just barely, and completely enjoyed my dinner with the lobster and foie gras as the highlights of the night.

A word about the service here is warranted also, as it is the same as in all of the other hotel outlets – solicitous and polite but not overbearing or intrusive. Someone knows about service in this hotel and has shared this knowledge with all of the restaurant staff that I’ve ever met here.

If you’re a fan of foie gras and lobster, as well as many other types of great food, then you may also want to head over to Pavilion on a weekend and indulge yourself a little. And feel free to overdo it just a bit if you want. That’s why gyms were invented.

Dusit Thani Italian Wine Dinner Offers Wines From Piedmont

April 12, 2009 · 1 Comment

The Dusit Thani Bangkok is hosting yet another wine dinner in April on the 30th in the hotel’s Italian restaurant, Il Cielo. This dinner will be matching the great food of the restaurant with some of the high-quality Italian wines from the Bersano winery, the Piedmont region’s largest privately owned winery which was established over 200 years ago by Giuseppe Bersano. Piedmont is in the far northwest part of Italy and wine production there goes back two thousand years or more.

Bersano Wine Dinner At Il Cielo

Bersano Wine Dinner At Il Cielo

With 46 different DOC and four DOCG areas, Piedmont is the region that produces the largest number of best known, noble, and world-appreciated prize-winning wines, such as Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Grignolino, Malvasia and Asti Spumante among others. Another distinguished characteristic of Piedmont is that most of its wines are produced on family estates made up of relatively small parcels of land.

The main grape grown here is the distinguished Nebbiolo, which is the base for the famed Barolo, Barbaresco and Gattinara among others. Its name derives from the word nebbia, or fog, because of a velvety, whitish coating over its berries in addition to the fact that it grows in an area where, at ripening time in September, heavy morning fog is a given and the humidity that it provides gives the grapes an ideal habitat.

The production of strong reds is predominant in this landlocked, mountainous region and are the perfect complement to the rich and hearty cuisine featuring white truffles, fonduta, which is a variation of the Swiss cheese fondue, rice, meats, pastas and stuffed vegetables.

And it looks as if the menu for this wine dinner will complement the wines very well since the Dusit people have put together a menu that uses many of these same ingredients as you can see below:

1.    Marinated scallop carpaccio and blue crab timbale
With preserved peach and pink peppercorn dressing , micro greens with shaved fennel.
Wine – GAVI  2007
2.    Soft potato and spinach gnocchi
With winter truffles and Sage butter with Lamb jus.
Wine – DOLCETTO D’ALBA,COLDELFOSSO 2007
3.    Royal project rabbit braised in “generala” with a hint of vanilla
And Stuffed with pistachio and  berries , served with artichoke puree and hazelnut oil.
Wine – BARBERA D’ASTI SUPERIORE, GENERALA 2004
4.    Juniper dusted roasted Venison loin
poached pear in red wine and star anise , served with butter nut flan and  cranberry and jus.
Wine – BAROLO,NIRVASCO 2004
5.    Blueberry and lemon cake
Served with wild strawberry and rosemary sauce.
Wine – MOSCATO D’ASTI 2007

This looks to be another of the Dusit’s well-designed dinners so if you want to experience wines and food from this ancient wine-making region, contact the hotel and make your reservation now. The cost is 2,200 baht++.

I Learn About Muay Thai At Fighting Spirit Gym In Bangkok

April 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

If you’re not into fighting or boxing or any other kind of martial arts you may never have heard of muay thai but it’s one of the hottest trends in international fight circles radiating outward from its home base in Thailand. Basically, muay thai is Thailand’s form of boxing only kicking is a big part of the sport and elbows can be used as well. And with the increase in interest in the sport internationally has also come an increase in muay thai training and the establishment of more muay thai schools.

Fighting Spirit Gym

Fighting Spirit Gym

One of these schools is Fighting Spirit Gym, a new muay thai training center conveniently located in the middle of Bangkok on Silom Road, one of the major thoroughfares in the city. Fighting Spirit is owned and managed by Dan Lyons, an Australian with a wealth of experience in both the fitness field and also the world of fighting. Dan was a boxer in his native country and also fought in mixed martial arts tournaments in Japan so he has a well-rounded perspective in regard to many forms of training including fitness training as he is also now the chief trainer for California Wow fitness clubs in Thailand. And, to complement his background he has hired top muay thai trainers to work at Fighting Spirit, former muay thai boxers, some of whom were champion fighters and all of whom are very dedicated to the sport of muay thai.

Fighting Spirit Gym

So, to get a first-hand look at what muay thai and muay thai training is all about, I visited Fighting Spirit recently and went through a workout, albeit a brief one, with one of the gym’s trainers. I say brief because when all was said and done I probably only did about the equivalent of one round of fighting but it felt like a lot more. A brief disclaimer here: I do work out on a regular basis and have for many years. However, the ravages of age – I’m 53 – and the rigors of fighting in any style tired me out rather quickly. You really have no idea how physically demanding fighting is until you try it. These guys are in the kind of shape you will probably never be in in your life. Trust me on this.

Anyway, I arrived and changed into my shorts and shirt – no shoes in muay thai – and promptly had my hands wrapped, making me feel like a real fighter, by my trainer, Nan, a former champion muay thai fighter. I reassured him that I wouldn’t hurt him during our workout and he seemed a bit relieved to hear this. After donning my gloves, which fit my hands very tightly, I climbed into the ring and got ready to RUUUUUMBLE.

Fighting Spirit Gym

Fighting Spirit Gym

We started right in with me throwing punches at the heavy hand pads that Nan was holding. They were basically jabs, left and right, straight at the pads. We then shifted to some uppercuts which are more difficult to aim but I managed to make pretty decent contact with some of them, although not as good as the jabs.  After taking a short break so that Nan could catch his breath we were at it again only this time it was kicking as Nan held two large pads for me to whale on. There was a nice cracking sound when I hit the pads just right which was rather satisfying. Then it was knees and then on to elbows. Elbows may have been the hardest in terms of making contact squarely. It’s harder to aim your elbows, I found, but you can make some pretty solid contact if you do it right.

Fighting Spirit Gym

All in all, I probably worked for about five or six minutes but it was enough – for Nan. Poor guy was so tired we decided to call it a day. I worked up a great sweat in the open-air atmosphere of the gym, under cover but with two open walls that are chain link. And, I learned one important lesson: this is not easy. It was interesting and exhilarating in a way but fighting is a tough thing to do.

Fighting Spirit Gym

Fighting Spirit Gym

However, if you’re interested in getting a good workout and you’re tired of machines and typical gym atmospheres this is a good way to take a break from that type of scene. Many of the people who come here are not fighters but just ordinary people who like the atmosphere and think it’s fun, both men and women alike. So don’t be intimidated by this place. It’s fun and friendly and the trainers love working with beginners, even with old guys like me. But, if you’re real serious about learning more about muay thai boxing they have the people here who can take you to any level you want. Although this is a new place it’s a good place to be introduced to muay thai training whatever your experience in fighting. To see a video of my experiences go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YWeUQ5jcDA.

Great New Dim Sum Menu At Lok Wah Hin In Bangkok, Thailand

April 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

With its mix of antique-looking birdcages and black lacquered furniture, along with plenty of wood and bamboo accents, the Lok Wah Hin Chinese restaurant in the Novotel Siam Square Hotel in Bangkok offers diners a relaxing yet interesting ambience in which to dine. One side of the restaurant is a glass wall which looks out over the hotel’s lobby below and outside to the busy streets of Siam Square.

Inside, however, it’s peaceful and serene, although at a recent lunchtime (March, 2009) there were a fair number of customers in the restaurant, many of them probably there for the all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch buffet. It’s a relatively new concept and in addition to a large number of dim sum items the 520 baht++ price also includes a bowl of special soup, fried rice or noodles and dessert. It’s a good deal since the dim sum menu (which I have never really been crazy about to tell the truth) offered quite a number of new items created by the restaurant’s chefs, items I’ve never seen anywhere else. In fact, all of the items on this menu are new and it was these items that made me into a true believer in dim sum for the first time.

There were even a few Thai-Chinese fusion-type dishes like the garpaa gai and the tom yum chicken, items that were definitely dim sum in nature but with a distinct cross-cultural taste sensation, mixing the savory flavors of traditional dim sum with their potent and spicy Thai counterparts. The tom yum chicken was particularly tasty and these are both unique dishes in my experience.

There were a number of the new dishes that really stood out although, to be fair, they all were very good and were definitely not your run-of-the-mill dim sum offerings. Dishes like Chinese spinach, pork with XO sauce, seabass with noodles and a roast duck concoction were excellent examples of the chefs’ new menu and will undoubtedly be popular with everybody. These dishes, and more, are inventive and delicious and bring dim sum to a whole new level. And they even have a new lo-fat line of dim sum specialties that also contain no pork.

So for a whole new meaning of dim sum try this new feature of Lok Wah Hin Chinese restaurant. And while I haven’t mentioned the regular menu in this article, it too is worth coming here for, as there is also a certain amount of experimentation on it as well, making the restaurant a place that can be counted as anything but ordinary. The atmosphere may relax you here but the food is exciting.
